Situated high on a hill above historic Oamaru overlooking the sea to the east and mountains to the west, is Pen-y-bryn (est. 1889) - the largest single storied timber dwelling in the South Island. The Lodge is an Historic Places Trust Category 1 property, and includes furniture and fittings collected from around the world over a century ago coupled with the comfort and facilities of today. The Lodge sits amongst 1½ acres of landscaped gardens surrounded by mature trees. |

| Pen-y-bryn is located on the southern boundary of Historic Oamaru on the East Coast of the South Island, one hour north of Dunedin, 2½ hours south of Christchurch, 2 hours from Mt Cook and 3 hours from Queenstown. |
| Attractions include: Salmon and Trout fishing, Yellow Eyed and Blue penguin viewing, ancient Maori Rock art, picturesque scenic drives, Waitaki Valley hydroelectric dams, geological and ecological tours, and unique Oamaru Stone buildings with the Victorian Town at work. |

| Guest Rooms |
| There are five guest rooms at the Lodge each with its own en-suite. Four of the rooms have queen size beds and the fifth has two king single beds. Each room is decorated in keeping with the era of the Lodge. |
| The Elizabeth room is situated in the main Lodge building and was originally the maid's room. The en suite in this room contains the original large pedestal bath with it's unique Victorian brass tapware. | ![]() |

The Victoria room is also situated in the main Lodge building and contains antique oak furnishings. This room overlooks the Oamaru stone terrace and gardens and captures the afternoon sun. |
| The Park room in the Annex at the rear of the main building, is a twin room with two king single beds. It overlooks the extensive potager garden within the lodge grounds, with Awamoa Park as a backdrop. | ![]() |

The Garden room is a queen room which overlooks the garden at the rear of the property. It provides views of some of the original garden trellis works now incorporated in neighbouring properties. |
| The Nest, also located in the Annex, is a queen room facing toward the sea. It overlooks a large elm tree planted when the Lodge was built. | ![]() |
| Each
of the rooms is well appointed with tea and coffee making facilities,
including fine bone china. Complimentary homemade biscuits are refilled
each day as is the basket of fresh fruits.
As well as 100% cotton bed linen, each bed has a wool underlay and wool duvet. Personal touches abound from monogrammed bathrobes to fresh flowers from the Lodge gardens to hand embroidered face cloths and tray cloths. |
